Constantia Flexibles has launched EcoVerHighPlus, a mono polypropylene (PP) laminate designed to replace conventional multi-material structures in coffee packaging. Developed in partnership with Delica AG—part of the Swiss-based Migros Industrie—the new soft bag format meets the demanding requirements of both ground coffee and whole beans, with a clear eye on recyclability.
EcoVerHighPlus is built for function. Its barrier properties maintain freshness by protecting against oxygen and moisture, while a mono PP valve lets gases from freshly roasted beans escape without letting air in. This design helps maintain product quality without complicating disposal or recycling.
“This project highlights the positive impact of close collaboration,” said Tobias Acker, Market Product Manager for Beverages at Constantia Flexibles. “Thanks to our partnership with Delica AG, we’ve launched one of the first recyclable-ready mono PP laminates for coffee soft bags on the market. This represents a meaningful step forward for both the industry and the environment.”
One of the most practical outcomes of the collaboration is that EcoVerHighPlus runs smoothly on existing vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) machines. This eliminates the need for new equipment or major production changes—a key advantage in commercial rollouts.
“EcoVerHighPlus has proven to be a reliable, high-performance solution,” said a spokesperson from Migros Industrie. “It demonstrated excellent runnability on VFFS machines without requiring any equipment modifications. After some fine-tuning to optimize the laminate, the project quickly became a one-shot success story.”
While packaging recyclability is becoming a baseline expectation, the coffee segment remains a technical challenge due to its high preservation demands. EcoVerHighPlus is part of a growing push to replace multi-layer films that are hard to recycle with single-material formats that don’t compromise on product protection.
Constantia Flexibles and Migros Industrie aim to keep sustainability practical, pushing packaging innovation that works at scale. For the coffee industry, EcoVerHighPlus offers a functional path forward—one that simplifies the end-of-life process without sacrificing performance.
